Mt. Snow, VT
Mt. Snow is one of Vermont’s best-known ski resorts, nestled between the Green Mountain National Forest and the Dover Town Forest, with the lovely and quaint town of Dover in between. Despite its name, the Mt. Snow area offers plenty of attractions year-round, from golfing, to fun on the water, to delicious foods, to places to shop.
Vermont has a growing winery and brewery scene, with an official wine trail and vineyards that offer tours and tastings, and a brewer’s festival that is in mid-July. If you don’t want to travel, no worries, many of the shops in the Dover area offer a selection of local wines and brews that you can purchase!
You can pair your selections with fresh, organic produce from locally owned and operated farms in the area, as well. There is the Boyd Family Farm, which offers berry picking in season, which runs from June to October, and hosts a blueberry festival from late July to early August. There is a Vermont Cheese Trail, as well!
The Somerset Reservoir is also nearby. You can kayak, paddle, and fish, the local species being bass, pike, and perch. There are also miles of hiking trails, perfect any time of year, but especially gorgeous in autumn, where you can feel the crisp cool air and view the fall foliage as the area prepares for the coming winter.
Mt. Snow has fantastic skiing and has a ski and snowboard school to help improve techniques. The resort has restaurants to refuel and relax after hours on the slopes, and places to shop to pick up any needed gear. Across from the mountain is the Timber Creek Cross Country Ski, if that is more your speed, and they offer instruction and snowshoeing as well. And if you are staying in the warmer months, Mt. Snow has a golf course! The Original Golf School is a renowned and highly rated school for improving your game, and they offer private lessons as well. There is also a bar and restaurant, a perfect way to end a fun day on the links.
Foodies will love the highly-rated Two Tannery Road restaurant, filled with rich history in a charming 18th century house with a fireplace and an antique bar. If you are looking for something more casual, Dots of Dover is a well-known diner that offers traditional American fare.
